The story begins in the latter years of the reign of King Al-Hudhad, father of Balqis, with Syrian artist Asa’d Fida embodying this character as a ruler, but who also weak at the same time. Under his reign the country witnesses decline in various aspects including military, economic and administrative life at a time when rivalry between the Yemeni tribes and Abyssinia leads to the disregard of the central state and its failure to control the reins of power. The King loses his crown prince as a prisoner to the Abyssinians before falling ill. He dies and leaves the throne to his daughter Balqis
